Thursday Beer Review

Tonight I opened one of the new year round brews from Almanac Brewing Company out of San Jose. This one is their new Extra Pale Ale available in 12oz bottles in a 4 pack.

The beer poured with a nice foamy head which stuck around for a whole. The beer was a nice amber color. A little darker than your standard pale ale.

Once opened, you immediately could smell the oak. Once poured into the glass, all the aromas came through. Lots of oak, orange and hops. A really complex and fantastic smell.

The flavor profile is just as good. The orange is a bit more subdued and subtle on the palate. The oak and hops are the predominant flavors and complement one another quite well. This is a really well done pale ale from a great local brewer.

In addition to some great beers, the have some of the best labels and packaging around. If they distribute in your area, check them out. Well worth it.

Sunday Beer Review

Tonight I opened a Guava Grove from Cigar City Brewing out of Florida. This beer poured a rich amber color with a nice foamy head which dissipated fairly quickly.

It had a fantastic aroma from the Belgian yeast and the guava.

The carbonation on the beer was quite nice and provided a good mouth feel. It had a yeasty flavor with guava and banana notes coming through. There is also a very mild spice to the beer. Overall it is a very nice beer especially if you like the Belgian style.

Sixpoint Resin

The name says it all. This is a super sticky resinous imperial IPA. Lots of citrus and pine come through yet despite the 103 IBU's and the 9.1% ABV it is well balanced with the malt profile and drinks incredibly smooth with a touch of sweetness. Sixpoint really knocked this one out of the park with both the beer and the packaging. The can design is fantastic and I absolutely love the NY skyline bar code. The only down side to this beer is having to trade for it but it is well worth it.

You have to start somewhere

Many friends and family members have been telling me I should start a blog for beer. It have debated it for quite some time and I have finally decided to give it a go. You have to start somewhere so here it is. I will be writing about my beer adventures with a little bit of food stuff sprinkled in. Once I get going I will try to provide beer reviews, availability, release information from around the country and anything else that seems pertinent at the time. I hope everyone enjoys my foray into blogging. Thanks to those that have supported me on instagram over the last few months and I hope to see some of my IG followers here. Let the fun and games begin. Cheers.
